As early as 2000 years ago, there were 70 cities and villages in the territory of the Fergana Valley. The city of Namangan is located in the northern part of the Fergana Valley, at an altitude of 450 meters above sea level. This is one of the ancient cities of Uzbekistan – the approximate date of its foundation is 1610. The Great Silk Road passed through the city, which was found not only in Europe, but also in some European cities.
In 1620, as a result of a powerful earthquake, the city of ancient Ahsikent was destroyed, its population moved to Namangan, which contributed to the further development of the city. These facts give reason to believe that Namangan was the successor of the ancient Ahsikent.
In 1912, the railway was laid from Kokand to Namangan. Gradually Namangan turns into a developed industrial center of the Turkestan region.
