According to archaeologists, the history of Zaamin exceeds 2000 years. Its importance as a key settlement on the trade routes, which later became the basis for medieval caravan roads, was very high. Zaamin has long been a part of one of the oldest agricultural regions of Central Asia – Ustrashany, located between the ancient regions – Sogd and Bactria, Fergana and Chach, between Syrdarya and Zarafshan.
The name of Zaamin is repeatedly mentioned in the works of one of the last Timurids, Zakhiriddin Babur, as well as in a number of written sources of historians of the 16th and 17th centuries.
Today the museum, which opened in 1996, has more than 30 thousand exhibits. The first director and one of its creators was Zaamin’s historian, geographer and journalist Sattor Karabaev. The construction of the museum building began at the very end of the 19th century and was completed at the beginning of the 20th century, at various times various institutions were located there.
