From May 31 to June 2 of this year, a number of international events will be held dedicated to the awarding of the title “Khiva – the Organization of Islamic Cooperation city of tourism for 2024".
In 2022, at the XI session of the ministers of tourism of the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Baku the ancient city Khiva, which has a history dating back two and a half thousand years, was declared “the tourism capital of the Islamic world for 2024”.
In this regard, Khiva will soon attract the attention of the entire Islamic world. As part of the next prestigious events taking place in Uzbekistan, the XII session of the ministers of tourism of the OIC member states will be held. During the session, the tourism potential of the OIC member countries will be presented, the results of the work will be analyzed, and plans for the future will be considered.
Khiva is famous not only for its unique historical monuments, which are included in the world heritage, but also for its national values, such as the Khorezm dance - “Lazgi”, recognized by UNESCO as an integral part of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity. Khorezm cuisine, including “Tukhum Barak”, “Shivit Oshi”, “Izhzhan” and unique dishes from local fish, reflects the unique culture of this ancient land.
It should be noted that giving Khiva the status – the city of tourism of the Islamic world makes it possible to turn the city into one of the best tourist centers in the international travel market. UNESCO experts even compare Khiva with ancient Athens, Rome and Cairo.
For reference: the ancient complex "Ichan Kala", included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1990, is one of the best preserved medieval structures on the Silk Road.
