In 2016, 2157.7 thousand foreign citizens arrived in Uzbekistan, this figure increased by 7 times (1855.3 thousand people) compared to 2000.

According to the data of the State Customs Committee in 2016, the purpose of the visit of 2,0% of the persons, who arrived in the Republic of Uzbekistan (150,6 thousand persons), was business trips, 2.0 percent (6.3 thousand persons) – study, 0.7 percent (53.1 thousand people) – work, 2.4 percent (175.7 thousand people) – tourism, 22.6 percent (1661.6 thousand people) – family visits, 0.4 percent (27.3 thousand people) – treatment, 0.2 percent (17.2 thousand persons)-commercial and 71.5 percent (5,255.3 thousand people) – a permanent place of residence (including citizens of Uzbekistan),

The purpose of the trip of 5.6 percent of Uzbek citizens (298.0 thousand people) who left the Republic in 2016 was a business trip, 0.8 percent (40.4 thousand)- study, 27.3 percent (1449.5 thousand persons) – work, 5.5 percent (294.6 thousand people) – tourism, 59.3 percent (3146.6 thousand persons) – visiting relatives, 0.7 percent (35.9 thousand people) – treatment, 0.2 percent (12.6 thousand persons) – permanent residence, 0.6 percent (32.3 thousand persons) – commercial.

In 2016, the number of operating travel companies was 433 units, 75 units more compared to 2012. The number of people, who were provided with tourist services in 2012, amounted to 511.6 thousand people, and in 2016, amounted to 465.4 thousand.

In 2016, 98.7 percent of the tours sold (101.7 thousand units) were directly purchased by the population. In particular, 44,800 tours within the territory of Uzbekistan (44.0 percent) were sold to Uzbek citizens, 9.9 percent (9.8 percent)-CIS citizens, 31.8 thousand tours to citizens of other foreign countries (31.3 percent). In particular, 15.2 thousand tours abroad were sold to Uzbek citizens.

In 2016, the number of hotels and similar accommodation facilities amounted to 750 and increased by 44.0 percent (229 units) compared to 2012. The number of places in them increased by 40.8 percent (by 11 thousand places) in 2012 and amounted to 37.8 thousand places. The number of accommodated persons in hotels in 2016 amounted to 1513.1 thousand people and increased by 27.2 percent (323.5 thousand people) compared to 2012.

In the Republic of Uzbekistan, the occupancy rate of hotel and similar accommodation facilities by region (places during the year) was 26.1 percent in 2016. In particular, the highest rate was in the Syrdarya region – 40.0 percent, in the Dzhizak and Kashkadarya regions – 36.5 percent, in the Tashkent city – 35.7 percent, in the Khorezm region- 14.1 percent and in the Fergana region -14.6 percent.
