At the entrance to Samarkand, you can see the ancient settlement Afrosiab, located in the northern part of the city and is one of the most important archaeological sites in Central Asia.
Walking through these amazing places, you can feel the immersion in the ancient world, touch the objects of history.
The city ruins date back to the 8th century BC.
In Afrasiab, palaces decorated with ganch carvings, and also houses of noble landowners, mosques and madrasahs, baths and water structures, cobbled streets of the Samanid era were found. Ancient Samarkand was originally called “Hisori kukhna” (Ancient Khisor), “Kal'ai Khisor” (fortress Hisar), then from the 17th century “Afrasiab fortress” or “Afrasiab”.
