On July 6, 2022, at the regular meeting of UNESCO in Paris, elections were held for membership of the UNESCO Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The international organization once again recognized the prospect of Uzbekistan in UNESCO. The meeting, significant for Uzbekistan, was attended by representatives from 180 countries of the world, including from Uzbekistan, where our country was ahead of a number of European states, such as Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovakia and Estonia, having received votes from 105 countries.
This became possible thanks to the efforts of the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the National Commission of Uzbekistan for UNESCO and the Permanent Mission of our country to UNESCO under the leadership of the Minister, Deputy Prime Minister Aziz Abdukhakimov.
It is also worth noting that the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage consists of representatives of 24 countries that are parties to the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. Its members are elected for a term of 4 years. Half of its members are re-elected every 2 years.
