French culture month will take place in Bukhara

From 2 to 31 October, the city’s historic spaces will host classical music concerts, dance performances, an art exhibition, a French film festival and a digital art project using artificial intelligence.
The programme will feature performances by French musicians, shows by the Beau Geste dance company, the “In the Light of Provence and Impressionism” exhibition, six French film screenings and the Painting Mirror project.
A dedicated programme will focus on the preservation and restoration of cultural heritage with the participation of French and Uzbek specialists.
The events will take place at venues including Ark, Poi-Kalyan, Sitorai Mokhi-Khosa and Kukeldash Madrasah.

Programme

2 October
A masterclass by French pianist Christine Fonlupt for students and young musicians.
Venue: Bukhara State University.
Time: around 16:00.

3 October
Opening of exhibition by Diana Khamzina “In the Light of Provence and Impressionism”, which will run until 31 October.
Venue: Sitorai Mokhi-Khosa Palace, Harem Building.

Dance performance “Unusual Movements” by the Beau Geste, French contemporary dance company.
Venue: Ark Fortress Square.
Time: 16:00.

Piano concert by Christine Fonlupt featuring works by Couperin, Chopin, Franck, Debussy, Mel Bonis and Fazıl Say.
Venue: Poi-Kalyan Square.
Time: 19:00.

4 October
Second performance of “Unusual Movements” by the Beau Geste dance company.
Venue: Ark Fortress Square.

5–9 October
A series of lectures, working meetings and practical exchanges with French and Uzbek specialists. The programme will focus on the preservation, study and restoration of cultural heritage.
Venues: universities, cultural institutions and historical sites across Bukhara.

12–17 October
French Film Festival featuring screenings of six French films.
Venue: open-air square of Bukhara State Pedagogical Institute.

23–25 October
Digital art project Painting Mirror. Maxim Turut and Rémi Dupanloup will present wall projections combining French painting, graphic art, street art and artificial intelligence technologies.
Venue: Historic centre of Bukhara.

24 October
Concert featuring French clarinetist Christophe Dravers and pianist Pascal Romano.
Venue: Kukeldash Madrasah.
French Culture Month will bring together music, dance, cinema, visual art and contemporary digital technologies, with events taking place throughout October in the historic setting of Bukhara.
