Kiev cave in Samarkand

995

The nature of Uzbekistan is truly unique and mysterious.

In the Samarkand region, in the foothills of the Zarafshan range, there is a cave that is still considered a mystery to mankind.

The Kiev cave was discovered in 1972 by speleologists from the Kiev Scientific Laboratory of Speleological Research, who gave the name of a unique area.

Since 1972, scientific expeditions have been held here annually, which each time established new depths of this cave. In 1977, the All-Union Speleological expedition established the exact depth of the cave shaft – 990 meters and discovered a chain of flowing lakes with a depth of almost 2 meters.

Alternating vertical shafts with a depth of almost 100 meters inside the cave form beautiful inclined galleries with a length of 30 to 50 meters. The air temperature here ranges from 3 to 5 degrees.

Sewage flows out into one deep-water lake with a depth of up to 10 meters, which gives the cave a truly fabulous look. But it is impossible to get to this lake even with scuba diving, it is difficult to squeeze through the narrow cracks of the mines.
