The city of Muynak is one of the amazing cities of Karakalpakstan. Once a port city 1,300 kilometers from Tashkent, it was neglected for many years, and today, thanks to the restoration of the city and the growth in the number of tourists, the city began to gradually revive.
Muynak is the northernmost airport in Uzbekistan. It was built in 1947 but has not been used for passenger traffic since the 1990s. Once there were flights to Tashkent, Nukus, Kungrad, Urgench and other cities.
In January 2019, the Government of the Republic decided to reconstruct the airport. The new airport received its first test flight in August 2020. In February, the plane of the President of Uzbekistan arrived at the airport for the first time. Then Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced the opening of air traffic on the Nukus-Muynak-Tashkent route.
From September 12, 2022, for the first time after the pandemic, Uzbekistan Airways JSC will begin air transportation on the Nukus-Muynak-Tashkent route in order to create favorable conditions for the residents of Muynak and Nukus.
The modern airport is equipped with a terminal serving up to 50 passengers per hour and runways with a distance of up to 1500 meters.
Despite the tragic fate of the Aral Sea, the city on the coast of the dried sea to this day remains the most interesting object for tourists and explorers of the seabed. And the city's airport plays an important role in this.
