From May 18 to 22, Uzbekistan performed with the National Pavilion at the 75th anniversary Cannes Film Festival 2022. During the five days of work, the delegation from Uzbekistan received more than a hundred guests from different countries: directors, producers, experts and stars from the world of television and the film industry.

The work of the National Pavilion of Uzbekistan was organized by the National Film Commission of Uzbekistan with the support of the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as the Agency for Youth Affairs and the Embassy of Uzbekistan in France.

During the working days of the National Pavilion, a presentation of the global motivational platform "Uzbekistan's club" was presented. One of the project is the film "Uzbek", which was released in March 2022 and caused a resonance among the media and a wide audience. In addition, the environmental problems of the Aral Sea region were highlighted with the help of the new project "Aral Dream".

During the work of the National Stand, negotiations were held and memoranda of cooperation between Uzbekistan and world professionals of the film industry were signed and issues of cooperation with representatives of European cinema were discussed, which will contribute to further strengthening the tourist image of Uzbekistan in the world. Without a doubt, the active participation of our country in the global film business will increase the recognition of the country and attract an increasing number of tourists.

Within the framework of the festival, agreements were reached with media companies and directors, in particular, a memorandum was signed with Clara Lee, commercial director of the London Focus film fair, and joint work is also planned to attract British producers and directors to shoot in Uzbekistan. For these purposes, an info tour will be organized for ten British film producers (including location managers working at HBO and Marvel Studios) to Uzbekistan in September-October of this year.

At the same time, the National PR Center reached an agreement with Dirk Vandereiken, one of the heads of the European Association of Journalists, on joint implementation of projects. The Association expressed great interest in visiting Uzbekistan. In addition, questions were discussed about the organization of press tours to Uzbekistan for journalists from leading European countries to familiarize themselves with the ongoing reforms and increase the country's tourism potential. With the support of the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Uzbekistan, it is planned to involve the Association in the organization of the "New Uzbekistan" forums, which will be held in June in Berlin and in July in Paris this year.

An agreement has also been signed with the Canadian-Iranian director Mustafa Keshvari to shoot a film about Omar Khayyam in Uzbekistan. The director is scheduled to visit Bukhara and Karakalpakstan in July to select locations, and filming of the film itself is planned for September this year.

The famous editor of the film "Amelie" Herve Schneider testified his respect for Uzbekistan and expressed the wish that as many foreign film crews as possible visit the locations of Uzbekistan. Another eminent professional from the film industry – the representative of the Swiss festival Adolfo Edoardo Bader – expressed support for the demonstration of action films from Uzbekistan.

Representatives of the Olsberg SPI agency expressed interest in including Uzbekistan in the prestigious rating of government initiatives to support foreign film crews.

With the director of the Vesoul International Film Festival of Asian Cinema, Jean-Marc Teruan, representatives of the Uzbek delegation discussed the interest of French viewers in Uzbek films.

The Director General of the Cinema Agency under the Ministry of Tourism and Culture of the Republic of Turkey Erkin Yilmaz also visited the National Pavilion of Uzbekistan. The possibility of close cooperation between our countries was discussed.

A well-known Mongolian director made a proposal to jointly shoot a three-part film about the historical relations between Uzbekistan and Mongolia. In the near future, the director plans to visit Uzbekistan to select film locations.

A pleasant bonus was the invitation of the director of the European Film Market Joanna Date to re-participate in Uzbekistan at the Berlin Film Festival from February 16 to 22, 2023. The Director also offered to assist in promoting Uzbekistan's film locations for foreign film crews. During the Berlin Film Festival, it is planned to create a separate hall for Uzbekistan, where the largest figures of the film industry will be invited.

Another guest of the National Pavilion was director Mikhail Borodin, a former compatriot of Uzbekistan. His film "Products 24" (about the difficult fate of migrant workers from Uzbekistan and other Central Asian countries) was shown during the Berlin Film Festival and was awarded the Critics' Prize in the Panorama category.

In addition, a delegation of the Portuguese Film Commission visited the pavilion of Uzbekistan. The guests discussed issues of mutual work to promote the locations of our country in Portugal. Yuri Artemenko, a well–known producer and vice president of the international film company Star Media, also became a guest at the National Pavilion. Cooperation in the field of streaming platforms is planned.

Summing up the results of the participation of the National Pavilion of Uzbekistan at the International Cannes Film Festival 2022, we can conclude about the successful participation of our country at the fair with the prospect of further effective work to promote the film industry of Uzbekistan and the tourism potential of our country on the world stage.
