The popular British international publishing house Dorling Kindersley, specializing in publishing illustrated guides and encyclopedias in 63 languages, has released a guidebook "Go here instead", dedicated to the world's brightest tourist destinations.
This guide contains an article by Sophie Ibbotson, Ambassador of the Tourism Brand "Uzbekistan" in the UK, about the Tilla Kari Madrasah - one of the three religious and architectural monuments of Samarkand, located on the famous Registan Square and included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
“The Tilla Kari Madrassa is the alternative to St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican” –with these words the author begins to describe the characteristics of the madrassa in her article.
In the article, Sophie Ibbotson details the story of Tilla Kari – “Built in the mid-17th century by the Shaybanid General Alchin Yalangtush Bahadur, the Tilla Kari is the newest, largest and most elaborate structure in the Registan. The madrassa takes the name from the mosque inside its courtyard: Tilla Kari means "gold-covered", a reference to the building's shimmering gilded dome and walls. Sure, St. Peter's dome is higher but the extravagance of the Tilla Kari is so great it'll make you dizzy.”
