The oldest region of Uzbekistan – Khorezm is a truly unique region. It is the oldest center of civilization and culture of the Eastern peoples. The first records of Khorezm are found in the book of Zoroastrians "Avesta". By the way, this land is the birthplace of the greatest genius of antiquity, the creator of the map of the Earth in the form of a sphere, the founder of algebra-Abu-Abdullah al-Khorizmi.
It is known for certain that in the 12th century a powerful state of Khorezmshakhs was formed on this territory, which fell a century later from the Mongol invasion. But in 1376, the Great Tamerlane freed Khorezm from the Mongol empire and finally annexed this region to his Empire.
The country of a thousand fortresses - this is how Khorezm is called for the huge number of ancient monuments located on this territory. Ancient settlements with a thousand-year history, palaces, mosques, minarets – here literally every stone breathes history.
The heart of the region is a real open-air Museum city - Khiva, which is more than 2500 years old, and in the region itself there are more than 250 objects of architecture and culture.
Khorezm region is located on a flat area, with some small hills. In the north the region borders with Karakalpakstan in the south with Turkmenistan and in the south-east is located adjacent to the Bukhara province.
