A joint meeting was held in Tashkent between Gayane Umerova, Chairperson of the Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation, and Abdulaziz Akkulov, Chairman of the Tourism Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan, with Shaikha Nasser Al Nowais, UN Tourism Secretary-General. The meeting reflected the country’s active foreign policy agenda in the field of tourism cooperation.

The negotiations took place within the framework of a consistent policy of openness and strengthening international ties pursued under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. During the dialogue, particular attention was given to the sustainable development of tourism, which contributes to shaping a positive international image of Uzbekistan and strengthening its position on the global stage.

It was noted that the reforms being implemented in the country are aimed not only at modernizing tourism infrastructure but also at strengthening cultural diplomacy at the institutional level. The development of cultural and event tourism is seen as an important element of the state strategy for economic diversification and attracting foreign investment, as well as a platform for intercultural dialogue.

Within the framework of the Uzbekistan Development Strategy until 2030, tourism is identified as one of the key drivers of sustainable growth. In this regard, cooperation with UN Tourism is gaining strategic importance, opening up opportunities for the adoption of international standards, digitalization of the sector, and the training of qualified personnel.

The parties discussed prospects for implementing joint initiatives, including educational programs, support for traditional crafts, and the development of the creative economy. It was emphasized that such projects not only enhance the country’s tourism appeal but also contribute to preserving national identity in the context of globalization.

Following the meeting, both sides confirmed their mutual readiness to further deepen cooperation, reflecting Uzbekistan’s course toward active integration into the global tourism space and strengthening its status as one of the key tourism centers in the region.
