In 2021-2022, the Republic of Uzbekistan took the chair of the event of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. In compliance with this, more than 80 events of various level are planned to be held in Uzbekistan.

Among the planned events is SCO International Half Marathon, which will be held on March 27, 2022 in Tashkent. The event organizers are the Athletics Federation of Uzbekistan and the National Olympic Committee. Within the framework of this event, the IV International Tashkent Half Marathon, dedicated to the national holiday "Navruz", will also be organized.

Since 2016, SCO marathons, held at the initiative of the international organization, have become an integral part of cultural and humanitarian cooperation between the SCO member states.

In 2019, within the framework of the Bishkek SCO Summit, the participants signed a Cooperation Agreement aimed at promoting sports and physical culture (education) among the people in the SCO space, encouraging professional athletes to participate in international competitions and creating favorable conditions for the development of Olympic, Paralympic and national sports.

The high level of preparation for holding sports events of the SCO attracts not only a large number of runners from different countries, but also professional athletes of Olympic level. SCO marathons are included in the World Athletics (International Association of Athletics Federations) competition calendar, because at each stage a lot of work is carried out to prepare the event in accordance with the rules of the international association, ranging from anti-doping control to the quality of the marathon track coverage.

The track for the upcoming Tashkent International SCO Half Marathon in 2021 received a certificate from the Association of International Marathons and Races (AIMS). In the future, this will allow the capital marathon to claim the status of World Athletics Label from World Athletics. Not only runners from 12 SCO member states are participating but also participants from other countries can take part in the marathon.

The program of the half marathon, which is scheduled at the end of March in Tashkent, includes two distances - 3 km and an equal half of the marathon race, that is, 21 km 97.5 meters

It is planned that the route of the half marathon will begin at the intersection of Afrosiyob and Beshyagach streets in the capital and continue along the streets of Nukus, Abdullah Kadiri and Abai.
