On August 23, the grand opening of the Silk road Samarkand tourist Center took place. The opening ceremony was attended by President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Silk road Samarkand is a unique tourist complex built along the rowing canal in the Samarkand district, includes eight hotels, of which two are 5-star and two are 4—star hotels, four boutique hotels, a congress center and the Eternal City caravanserai. The complex houses an ancient bazaar, 40 craft workshops in the traditions of 12 regions of Uzbekistan.
The project cost was $580 million. The project of the tourist complex is aimed at holding major international events. On September 15-16 last year, the center hosted the participants of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit. Then there was a big meeting of the leaders of the member states of the Organization of Turkic States. The annual meeting of the Board of Governors of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the General Assembly of the UNWTO World Tourism Organization are scheduled to be held here in 2023.
The caravanserai "Eternal City", according to the authors of the project, is the future business card of the culture of Uzbekistan. It presents local peoples cuisine, artisan workshops, wood carving, ceramics and pottery, the production of silk paper from mulberry, jewelry and carpets, as well as indoor and outdoor bazaars, folk performances and shows.
Visitors to the Eternal City can taste dishes of national cuisine from different eras and regions of the country and see authentic street performances. The Eternal City provides guests with a unique chance to be at the crossroads of Parthian, Hellenistic and Islamic cultures to appreciate the diversity of the heritage of bygone centuries. The author and curator of the project was the famous contemporary artist Bobur Ismoilov.
On the territory of the Silk Road Samarkand complex there is a large congress center with a functional area of 18 thousand sq. m. The building is designed in Oriental style with large panoramic windows. The high-tech platform, equipped with modern equipment, is designed for holding congresses, conferences, symposiums, exhibitions, presentations, shows and banquets. It offers spacious squares, stylish design and the services of experienced staff. Next door are the best hotels in Samarkand — Samarkand Regency Amir Temur and Silk Road by Minyoun, which allows you to hold international events in the congress center.
The Congress Center has 13 conference halls and meeting rooms, which were named after precious and semi-precious stones, which were especially valued during the Great Silk Road. On the squares adjacent to the halls, it is possible to organize coffee breaks and receptions.
