MALTashkent will host the International Chess tournament in memory of Georgy Agzamov
The 14th International Chess Tournament in memory of international grandmaster Georgy Agzamov will be held in Tashkent from August 15 to 23.
Georgy Agzamov is an Uzbek and Soviet chess player, the international grandmaster of 1984 and the first grandmaster of Central Asia. Since his early youth, George has successfully participated in various international tournaments. Our athlete fought with dignity with Tigran Petrosyan, Boris Spassky, Lev Polugaevsky, Mark Taimanov, Viktor Kupreychik and Mikhail Tal. He was awarded the title of international Grandmaster at the FIDE Congress in Thessaloniki in 1984.
Georgy Agzamov's life was tragically cut short on August 27, 1986: walking at dusk in the vicinity of Sevastopol, where the grandmaster came to the semifinals of the USSR championship, he stumbled and fell into a gorge. He was 31 years old.
On August 16, at 14:00, the official opening ceremony of the tournament will take place at the International Chess Academy in Tashkent. Our pride - the 17th world champion Rustam Kosimjonov will take part in the opening ceremony.
About 150 chess players and judges from 12 countries - Armenia, Afghanistan, Belarus, Georgia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Palestine, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan will compete for the title of the best grandmaster of the region.
The competitions will be held in two groups – in the main group " A "with a rating of 1800 and above, and in the group" V " for participants with a rating below 1800.
The total prize fund of the tournament is 25,000 US dollars.
The head of the competition will be Husan Turdialiev, an international category judge, regional president of FIDE for Central Asia. Khusan Turdialiev is an eight-time world chess champion, FIDE World champion, rapid and Blis World Championship referee, FIDE Grand Prix referee, as well as the chief referee of the Carlsen-Anand match, which took place in Sochi, Russia, in 2014.
Also, the competitions of the Tashkent Chess tournament will be judged by international judges from Russia, Iran and Tajikistan
The international tournament will also be attended by young chess players who will compete for the titles of international grandmaster, master of sports of the international category and master of sports of the FIDE category.
