Today, April 4, a meeting took place in Samarkand between the Chairman of the Tourism Committee, Umid Shadiev, and the Deputy Chairman of the State Tourism Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Azada Huseynova.
During the talks, the parties discussed the current state of the tourism industry, prospects for cooperation, and the development of joint tourism initiatives.
As a result of the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the State Unitary Enterprise "National PR Center" and Azerbaijan Tourism Board. The document aims to develop and promote a unified tourist route along the Great Silk Road.
The main goal of the cooperation is to consolidate the tourism resources of both countries under the initiative "Joint Silk Road Highlights Tour." The project envisions joint promotion of tourist routes in Central European countries, with a focus on key historical landmarks of the Silk Road, such as Baku, Shamakhi, Sheki, Khiva, Bukhara, and Samarkand.
As part of the memorandum, the parties also agreed to hold joint B2B events, roadshows, and participate in international tourism exhibitions.
After signing the document, the Azerbaijani delegation visited the Tourism Academy in Samarkand, where the guests had the opportunity to learn about the educational programs, infrastructure, and prospects for training professionals in the tourism sector.
Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, as leading tourist destinations along the central part of the Silk Road, are initiating a strategic partnership to attract more tourists, enhance the visibility of historical sites, and strengthen their positions in the global tourism market.
The signing of the memorandum emphasizes the importance of strengthening tourism ties between the two countries and opens up new opportunities for further industry development.
