On December 12, the first meeting of the Intergovernmental commission on the development of the Global Safe Tourism Code was held.
The main objective of the meeting was to discuss key aspects of developing a code that will serve as the foundation for ensuring the safety of tourists and promoting the sustainable development of the tourism industry on an international scale. Participants emphasized the importance of establishing a unified standard that will help countries address new challenges and threats related to travel safety.
Representatives from 50 countries and UN Tourism took part in the meeting. Following the discussions, a unanimous decision was made to elect Uzbekistan as the chair of the commission.
It is worth noting that the initiative to adopt the Global Safe Tourism Code was proposed by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Sh.M. Mirziyoyev, during the 25th session of the UNWTO General Assembly, held in 2023 in Samarkand.
