Zahiriddin Muhammad Babur is an outstanding writer, scholar and a talented military leader. He was born in 1483 in the city of Andijan, in the family of Umar Sheikh, a descendant of the Timurids. His mother was Kutlug Nigar Khan, the daughter of the ruler of Mongolia, Yunus Khan. In 1494, despite his young age, Babur ascended the throne. However, due to internal internecine wars, he lost his power along with his throne in Fergana and left Movarounnahr. After a series of military victories over Indian rulers, Babur united parts of India and Afghanistan. As a result of his great victories, he managed to establish a large centralized state, which became known in history as the Great Mogul Empire. Muhammad Babur spent the last years of his life in Agra, the capital of his empire, and died there on December 25, 1530.
Muhammad Babur left an indelible mark not only as a military strategist, but also as a poet who left behind a significant literary legacy. His creative journey includes about 200 rubais and other poetic works in Eastern genres in Persian and Turkic languages. However, a special place among his works is occupied by his famous prose work "Baburname," in which he describes his military exploits, defeats, hopes and failures.
The house-museum of Zahiriddin Muhammad Babur is located in the center of the city of Andijan on the Baghishamol hill, in the park named after the military leader. The building of the museum was built as a madrasa during the reign of Babur in Fergana, but it was demolished after he left Movarounnahr. At the end of the 18th century, the building was restored as the residence of the ruling family of the city. In 1990, the building was reconstructed and became the Andijan Literature Museum of Babur. Today, the exterior of the museum is decorated with traditional national paintings executed in white and blue tones. The distinguishing details of the exterior are the wide entrance stairs, a large blue dome in the center and a mosaic with oriental ornaments.
