Dorus-Saodat Complex

397

To the southwest of Shahrisabz lies the Dorus-Saodat or Dor-as Siadat complex, which means "the storehouse of power". It is a complex of mausoleums with an area of 3500 square meters, the construction of which was completed by Amir Timur in 1392. The work on the Dorus-Saodat mausoleum complex reflects the best examples of Uzbek architecture made by Khorezmian masters. The height of the external dome of Dorus-Saodat is 27 meters, and the front arch has a portal. During excursions to Uzbekistan, you can see colorful patterns, epigraphy or inscriptions around the facade of the building. The facade of the building is decorated with a variety of colors, while most of the building is painted blue. In addition to blue, other colors reflect the background, creating a beautiful artistic image. The massive entrance door was decorated with gold and blue tiles.

The complex was built after the death of Amir Timur's eldest and beloved son Jahangir, who fell from a horse and died in 1375 at the age of only 22. Jahangir was distinguished by his sharp mind, which allowed him to successfully study, but he was also fearless in battle and, as a beloved of his father, he was to become the heir to the throne. Depressed by the irreparable loss, Timur decided to build the most beautiful mausoleum in memory of his son, recalling the best architects from different parts of the Khorezm Empire. In 1404, in the records of the Spanish ambassador Clavijo, it was noted: "By a special order of Timur, the meat of twenty sheep is prepared and distributed as alms, and this is done here daily, in memory of his father and son."
