On April 23, Karakalpakstan once again became a point of attraction for gourmets and travelers, opening the season of one of the region’s most distinctive culinary events — the “99 Dishes from Aral Fish” festival. The event took place at the modern ethno-tourism complex “Karateren,” where traditions meet the evolving landscape of contemporary tourism. The festival was organized by the Tourism Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Guests embarked on a unique gastronomic journey, discovering more than one hundred variations of dishes made from Aral fish — from classic fried and stewed recipes to rich traditional soups and innovative interpretations by leading regional chefs. Visitors not only sampled the dishes but also experienced the cooking process firsthand, from open-fire preparation to the subtleties of local culinary techniques.

Since its establishment in 2017, the festival has become a signature event of Karakalpakstan, shaping a new cultural space and reinforcing the Aral Sea region’s position as an emerging hub for gastronomic tourism. Today, it is far more than a festival — it is a dynamic platform that brings together tradition, local identity, and the modern tourism industry.

In 2026, 20,000 local and foreign tourists visited the festival, and 50 professional chefs presented their original vision for Aral fish dishes. In addition to the festival, the guests got acquainted with the exhibition of folk and applied arts of Karakalpakstan, where more than 30 masters presented their handmade products. The event culminated in an award ceremony for the best culinary masters and a vibrant concert program featuring folklore ensembles, creating a truly festive atmosphere.

The “99 Dishes from Aral Fish” festival is an ideal opportunity to discover Karakalpakstan — a region where gastronomy becomes an art, and every journey turns into a vibrant cultural experience.
